I’m confronted daily with frustrations related to commercial health insurance, even though I do not accept insurance for reimbursement. There are blessings when coverage is good, but often, the insurance coverage is not worth the cost and people end up paying a lot more out of pocket than they should. Are you considering a change in your health insurance? Are you a business owner considering how to provide a benefit to your employees but want to escape the commercial insurance scam?
Do you know that there are alternatives out there? Many people are aware of faith-based programs such as Samaritan Ministries (I do this one), Christian Health Care Sharing | Samaritan Ministries, Medi-Share, and Christian Healthcare. There are a growing number of non-faith-oriented health sharing companies out there as well. These include Atlas Direct, Impact Health, and Sedara (and others). I haven’t researched each of these, so please do your research to learn which program is appropriate for your family's needs.
When you are participating with these health sharing companies, you are keeping costs down for you and everyone else. You might be surprised to know how much less things cost when you avoid going through your insurance and paying cash for things. Sure, it can be a shocking adjustment to start paying up front for things you previously didn’t but compare that with the cost of what you pay monthly (or have it taken out of your paycheck) for health care and then STILL have to pay your deductible, and STILL get stuck with a surprise bill months later.
Now is the time to start considering this! Now is also the time to consider your options for Medicare. Please consider your options with this helpful guide from Citizens Council for Health Freedom. You do have options!
RANT: Regarding reimbursements to physicians, in what industry is it accepted when a professional renders a service, but does not get reimbursement for up to 90 days afterwards? Furthermore, the reimbursement amount could be adjusted without notice or reason by the entity (i.e. insurance company) and the professional has to accept it? This is an impossible situation, yet it is reality in healthcare. This is one of the reasons why I chose a direct primary care model. Prior Authorizations… don’t get me started…
